Review of A House Divided by Kyle Dargan
A House Divided by Kyle Dargan was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on February 18, 2013. The poet reveals in his notes that his poem was inspired by a long train ride from Washington, DC to Atlanta and back. On the train, he overheard conversations that revealed many different versions of the American experience. The poet admits, perhaps laments, that his American is not your America, nor is it likely to be mine. Of course, no individual sees the world in quite the same way as any other, but Mr. Dargan's poem reveals that there exists a deeper, fundamental disconnect between Americans on the subject of what the American experiment is, was, and should be. Is he poet or prophet? Naysayer or soothsayer? Only time will tell.
