A Thousand Martyrs I Have Made by Aphra Behn (b. 1640), one of the first professional female writers, was offered by Poets.org's
Poem-A-Day on February 16, 2013. In her 18 lines of iambic tetrameter divided into 3 stanzas of 6 lines each, Ms. Behn sings of how the beautiful people live (though she was hardly a beauty herself). The poem could have been written by (or at least about) any of today's supermodels. I guess some things never change.
