What a surprise! I opened my email from Daily Science Fiction today to find a link to Songs of Eretz and some kind words from editors Michele and Jonathan. In anticipation of maybe seeing more traffic here as a result, I thought it was time I revealed my system for assigning rocket-dragons.
7: Outstanding story! I laughed, I cried, I was truly moved. Memorable, breaks new ground.
6: Excellent story! Thought-provoking, original, thoughts of it will linger.
5: Above average story. Well-paced, well-written, refreshing.
4: Well-written story. Glad I read it but soon to be forgotten.
3: Below average story. Minor flaws should be obvious to most readers.
2: Below average story. Problematic, difficult to follow, obvious major flaws, perhaps some issues with grammar, not sure how this one passed the editors.
1: Offensive story. Actually emits an odor. I felt violated after reading it.
Also, I feel that a disclaimer is in order: Reviews in Songs of Eretz are the humble opinions of Dr. Steven Wittenberg Gordon. They are not critiques. I call 'em as I see 'em. Comments are always welcome, but anonymous comments will not be posted. All comments are reviewed by a moderator.
