"The Man and the River" by Therese Pieczynski appeared in Daily Science Fiction on March 20, 2013. "A man marries a river, gets his hand bitten off by an alligator in the river, then must decide if he ever wants to enter the river again."
The author's explains his elaborate metaphor in his notes. I am tempted to reveal it here, but instead will recommend reading the notes before reading the story. In general, I believe that stories and poems that need explanations should be rewritten until they don't, which is why I gave this otherwise well-written tale 3 rocket-dragons.
