Opening Gambit by Michael McGriff was offered by Poets.org's
Poem-A-Day on March 15, 2013. The poet reveals in his notes that short poems can "exist at the crossroads of vastly real and vastly metaphorical landscapes." This poem certainly exists in both places at once, moving from a rather ordinary title, to the real image of a crossroads, to metaphorical images of symbolic flotsam.
