The Storm Rises by Dan Campbell appeared in the March 2013 issue of
Niteblade. The poem begins like a fever dream, and then half way in, the reader is drawn out of the poetry to realize that it is indeed a fever dream. Images of rain and wetness mirror the fever sweats of the subject of the poem, a sick child. The poem is beautiful and frightening, as the reader fears that any moment the child will die, and yet, in dying, may enter the world of eternal dreaming.
