The Daffodils by William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850), the renowned English romantic poet, was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on the anniversary of his birth April 7, 2013. The daffodils started blooming in Kansas about a week ago. They happen to be my favorite flower, so I'm rather partial to Mr. Wordsworth's tribute to them.
Legend has it that snow covered the ground in upstate New York as a lady entered a hospital in preparation for giving birth. When she returned home with her firstborn son, the daffodils were in bloom. That boy grew up to be a poet who is fond of daffodils.
