Review of The Purpose of Ritual by Melissa Broder
The Purpose of Ritual by Melissa Broder was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on April 19, 2013. The author reveals in her notes that her poem is meant to explore how humans "get out of ourselves...escape...realities." The unspoken message, to me at least, was a questioning of the rituals associated with the worship of God. Why do we need such rituals? Many who perform them do not know why or perhaps do not even really believe in God. This is a poem worth reading, contemplating, and sharing.
