Review of "By the Waters of Babylon [V. Currents]" by Emma Lazarus
By the Waters of Babylon [V. Currents] by Emma Lazarus (1849 - 1887) (pictured) was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on May 26, 2013. Ms. Lazarus is perhaps most famous for her poem that appears on the base of the Statue of Liberty. By the Waters sings of the opportunities for the exiled Jews, and perhaps by analogy for everyone, in America--the new Promised Land. I am not sure that her poem resonates as much today as it surely must have before the close of the frontier.
