Review of "Venice Beach" and "LV" by Michael Hofmann
Venice Beach and LV by Michael Hofmann appeared in the March 2013 issue of Poetry Magazine. Venice Beach made me envision a people watcher at the beach passing the time by making up backstories about what various passersby were thinking. It certainly must have been an interesting day at the beach for the poet. LV discusses the changes that take place as we age, from slang terms losing their coolness factor to the gradual onset of degenerative diseases to increasing thoughts about death. Both poems have a certain stream-of-consciousness ramble and bear reading more than once for their imagery and messages to sink in.
