The High-School Lawn by Thomas Hardy (1840 - 1928) (pictured) was offered by Poets.org's
Poem-A-Day on the anniversary of his birth, June 2, 2013. The poet describes a scene of students on a high school lawn in rhyming verse of varied rhythm. Interestingly, his bio reveals that, while best known for his novels, he eventually gave up writing them due to the increasing criticism of them and devoted himself entirely to poetry.
