Mississippi: Origins by Anna Journey was offered by Poets.org's
Poem-A-Day on June 17, 2013. The poem is deeply personal to the poet, an inventory of the strange relics and customs of her Southern family. Personal poems often sing well and ring true as does this one, but I wonder if they are able to achieve the universality of truly great poetry?
