For haiku thus inspired, I change the first line (supplied by the haiku immediately preceding it in the chain) at least just enough to make it mine (for copyright purposes), unless the opening line borders on cliche and thus is not owned by anyone (for example, I would not feel obligated to change the line "the close encounters").
