"Ode to Lil' Kim in Florence" by Barbara Hamby was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on August 26, 2013. The voice is brisk and free, the tone at once serious, sarcastic, and nostalgic. The poem proceeds as a high art moment, is interrupted by a pop art moment, which then leads the poet to muse upon what it means to be a liberated woman. The poet wonders that, while liberation is a good thing, is it worth the loss of feminine mystique?
