"E.H." by John Koethe was offered by Poets.org's Poem-A-Day on September 20, 2013. The poet reveals in his notes that he was inspired by Earnest Hemingway (pictured) (hence the title) and also by a character in a Sondheim play. The first stanza muses about Hemingway, his love for alcohol, and his compulsion to write. The second stanza introduces the Sondheim character, a pathetic loser. The third apparently is autobiographical.
