"Fog and Friction" is part of a planned collection of memoir poems about my time in Indonesia in the immediate aftermath of the tsunami of 2004. Unfortunately, even in missions of mercy, the age old military principles of fog and friction still apply. But even during the most frustrating times, small kindnesses do occur--one just has to look for and cherish them.
