The MOOC ModPo Poem of the Day for October 1, 2014 is "Water Raining" by Gertrude Stein. The poem was first published in Tender Buttons in 1914 and is in the public domain and therefore legally reprinted here.
Water Raining.
Gertrude Stein
Water astonishing and difficult altogether makes a meadow
and a stroke.
Commentary: Watercolor is often used in landscape painting, which might depict "a meadow." Each "stroke" of the paintbrush is "difficult" to apply, but in the right hand may produce "astonishing" results.
