From Roman Catholic nun and Associate Professor
of English to management trainer and business writer, Carolyn Martin’s life has
taken her from coast to coast, from twenty years in the convent (1963 - 1983) to the next twenty-four on the conference stage, from
poetry to business writing and back again.
She is the co-author of four books on
generational diversity in the workplace and has traveled across North America
teaching seasoned managers how to coach younger employees. She wrote articles
for numerous business publications including Global HR and Nursing
Management, and her work has been cited in dozens of
periodicals around the world from Beijing to Montreal, Buenos Aires to London.
After retiring from the business world in 2008, she
returned to her first love--poetry. Her poems have appeared in a variety of
journals, and her first poetry collection, Finding
Compass, was published by Queen of Wands Press in 2011.
Her second collection, The Way a Woman Knows, is
scheduled for release in early 2015 by The Poetry Box. According to
award-winning poet Kathleen Halme, this collection is filled with “intimacy,
feistiness, smarts and charm … . [Carolyn] is a poet deeply invested in
everyday holiness … . In love with mysteries brought down to earth, she knows
what contemporary oracles are for… . She handles the most difficult subjects –
death, gender identity, love, families, war, and belief – with great compassion
and clarity.” The Way a Woman Knows
will available both in paperback and digital formats.
Carolyn currently lives in Clackamas, Oregon, where
she gardens, writes, and plays with creative colleagues.
