Poet's Notes: The idea for this poem
came to me while taking a walk. The first half popped into my head on the spot,
but the words to finish the thought remained elusive. Eventually I settled on
belief and prayer to parallel leaf and midair. A few revisions later, the
editor suggested that the words could become a leaf-shaped concrete poem, and
then this work finally took shape - pun intended. --Lauren McBride
