Gateway Part 8
Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, Contest Judge
8. You cause it whenever you want.
Like sunlight. Like air.
The motion past the window --
what was just here? Hummingbird.
Hedge apple the size of a baseball
growing to the size of a softball.
Too many tomatoes and cicadas.
Don't worry about scarcity.
Whatever small stone you pick up
to hold in your palm lets you feel
the small weight and lightness
of one body of time.
