That day
was so hot
a horned
toad
hovered by
the lid
full of water
we
provided,
both front
feet
on the rim
as if to
say
this is
mine -
and thanks.
Poet's Notes: This is a true story
that happened during a family trip to west Texas during a record setting heat
wave. You know it's hot when even the desert-loving horned toad (actually a
lizard) needs a water break.
