Sierra July
Curling in on themselves,
Tucked against cold
Until a warm kiss wakes them
Making them stretch
From their green beds
With fresh painted faces
And spring's perfume
Poet's Notes: Inspired by the start of spring, I tried to write something that conjured the image. “Dolled Up” was conceived when I jotted down the last two lines. I liked the thought of the flowers not just hiding away to sleep, but also taking time to fix themselves up with fresh make-up and fragrance before popping out for the new season.
